The Hebrew University of Jerusalem invites applications for a tenure-track position (open rank) in the Department of Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies, with a specialization in the Archaeology of the Southern Levant in the Bronze and Iron Ages. The position is open to all candidates who have attained a Ph.D. degree and to advanced doctoral students who expect to be granted their Ph.D. no later than June 30, 2025.

Job requirements:

The candidate must have comprehensive training in the archaeology of the Bronze and Iron Ages, a proven mastery and experience in the basic skills of the discipline relating both to fieldwork and the study of finds stemming from excavations including, but not limited to, stratigraphy, architecture and pottery. Preference will be given to candidates with broad knowledge of the archeology of Ancient Near Eastern cultures and the ability to conduct cross-regional comparative studies that analyze archaeological finds in light of epigraphic, iconographic and historical sources.

Successful candidates are expected to conduct independent and original research at the highest academic level, conduct fieldwork (in Israel or abroad), guide and train graduate students, demonstrate academic leadership, compete for Israeli and international research grants, and be able to work cooperatively with colleagues in the Faculty of Humanities and the university at large.

Responsibilities include the teaching of required courses in Biblical Archaeology and elective courses in the candidate’s field(s) of specialization (at the B.A. and M.A. levels). The Hebrew University’s primary language of instruction is Hebrew. Candidates will be able to teach in English during the first few years following their appointment.

Qualified candidates will be invited for a campus visit, which will include a job talk, an interview and meetings with department members.

(6) Statement of research and teaching plans (Up to three pages and according to guidelines)

(7) Letters of acceptance for unpublished manuscripts

(8) Teaching evaluations (from the past three years)

(9) Two representative publications

(10) Two letters of recommendation, to be submitted directly by recommender (According to guidelines)

(11) Declaration Regarding relatives employed at the university (Here)
