A standing ovation at Hazor

Over the past three seasons, a unique cultic area dating to the Middle Bronze Age IIB has been uncovered under the supervision of Dr. Doron Ben-Ami in the excavations directed by Prof. Amnon Ben-Tor. Some 30 standing stones of various sizes, some as large as 1 m high, are concentrated in an open area, surrounded by thousands of animal bones and numerous figurines. This singular configuration is found just below the impressive remains of the courtyard of the monumental Late Bronze Age palace of Hazor .
