Oh my Goddess

The richest collection of prehistoric art ever to be found in Israel has been unearthed during the course of the extensive excavations of the Neolithic site of Sha‘ar Hagolan, directed by Prof. Yosef Garkfinkel. This unique collection includes mainly female figurines of ample proportions that are generally understood as representing the “mother goddess”. It seems that such figurines were widely owned by the inhabitants of this ancient site. The full collection can be viewed in the recently published popular book by Prof. Garfinkel.
