MA thesis topic: Differential use of space in the Middle Paleolithic of the southern Levant: 'Quneitra' as a case study.

Advisor: Prof. Naama Goren-Inbar

Abstract:

GIS (geographic information system) applications are being used in order to recognize and interpret meaningful patterning in the distribution of artifacts in the Middle Paleolithic site of Quneitra. Quneitra is a late middle Paleolithic site located in the northern Golan Heights, which was excavated under the direction of Prof. N.Goren-Inbar during the years 1982-5. The site has much potential as a preserved example of a short open-air occupation that can be spatially analyzed. This analysis enables us to answer different about the site's nature and the human activities that took place during its occupation. The answers to this questions may contribute to the broader research of human behavior in the Middle Paleolithic of the southern Levant, a period in which this area is drawing great attention due to its importance to the understanding of modern human origins.

Projects:

  1. The Nahal Mahanaim Outlet Middle Paleolithic site.
  2. The Gesher Benot Ya'aqov Acheulian Site
  3. The Kfar HaHoresh PPNB Site
